The Afro-American Heritage Center Offers a Writing Contest
Open Writing Contest for Quad City Area Youth

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Rock Island, IL
Why Malcolm Changed his Last Name to ‘X’, is the chosen essay topic open to all youths who live the in Iowa/Illinois Quad City Area between the ages 12-18.
The essay must have 500 words minimum and a minimum of three reference works on a works cited page. All entries are to be typed in 12 point font, may be single-spaced and must include the youths name, age, school, home address, parents name and a contact telephone number.
Only entries delivered by the USPS to the office of the Afro-American Heritage Center (see address below) and post marked no later than February 1, 2010, will be accepted. Absolutely NO exceptions.
Writers of the top ten essays will be notified by February 15. The most outstanding essay will be read during the History at the Library presentation to be held Saturday, February 20 at 11:00 a.m. at the Rock Island Public Library's community room. Writers of the top ten essays will all receive a free AAHC t‑shirt in addition to the most outstanding essay receiving a $50 cash prize.
